I was a member of 23 Amphibious Engineer Squadron from Jan 1966. I was in 2 Troop for about 18 months, which was equipped with Heavy Ferry, and was then put into 1 Troop. The troop staff/sgt was Reg (fub) Henderson and at that time we had Gillois rigs. These had been named after ladies of a certain reputation but were renamed with phonetic alphabet characters, really original. We were the last troop to be re-equipped with M2 which were a lot easier than Gillois. In 1969 1 Troop reformed as 64 AES and we took over the barracks vacated by an RTC unit.
