34 Squadron

This is the main page for the squadron or unit. More info will be added here as I get the time, but for now it's a "base" for establishing comms with other members of the same unit. You can post messages for other members of the same unit using the messages link above this blurb, and you can also search for other members of this unit. Once you find them, click on their name to send an email direct to them. Please note that this website doesn't "remember" your emails, they are sent direct from you to the recipient without sappers.co.uk getting in the way. That helps you get in touch quickly and it keeps everything simple and free. Have fun. Gordon

I am trying to locate the following people who I served with in 34 Sqn at waterbeach from 1982-1985. Sean Dungate RE. Ian brown (REME) and Dave Bishop (ACC) I have some very bad news about an old mate of ours and I think they need to know. My wife has been through bookface to no avail. So sending out an message in the hope that someone can shed some light. Thanks, Jim Phillips (jimphillips9708@icloud.com)

trying to find anybody that remembers me,i dont have many photos from that period and my memory is starting to fade, woundering if there is any group or reunions or has the squadron simply dissappeared

Hello Geordie , it's Jim Phillips. I was in 34 from 82-85 1tp. With Mick Hardwick Mac macormac, Sean dungate, graham seabourne. Dave bishop was our chef. Tim Middleton to name but a few. The sqn had just returned from Belize. The we did the Falklands and then our troop went to Kenya. Any joy?

Hi Jim Im sure I remember you I certainly knew Mick Hardwick Mac McCormack. I was in stores for 3 months at APC in Belize. I can just about remember Drunk Willy Whitelaw the drunk storeman. Any pics. Are you on Facebook? 34 Fd SQn REunion near Leeds 13th to 15th April 2018. Need to book hotel ASAP. Check it out and pass it on. Do you remember Al Turner, Hamish Clark and or Chris Boyd, James Duffy, Ronnie Wilson, Gary Tomlinson and Luigi Ray Gardener?

been t total for 20 years lol

Jim - just waiting for a 'call back' from an ACC pal of mine who may have found your boy Dave Bishop.

Thank you very much for your help. But some how either through yourself or other means Dave bishop contacted me on Wednesday 13 April. I have yet to find out how he found me. Still, thank you again for your time and help in tracking him down. A friend of ours when we served together took his own life a short time ago and I was trying to let as many people as I could know. So thank you again
Jim Phillips

There seems to be no way to show a posting to CE East Africa Command? As I was posted there in 1949 maybe it was to long ago? I also served at the GE Gilgil and Stores Depot in Nairobi.

34 Field Squadron (Air Support). Is this the same Unit? What is the meaning and purpose of the change in the name to "Independant"?

stevie kearns paddy lowry errol ismail(emu) jimmy duffy it would be nice to here from you or anyone else who knew me 1978-1982 tomo 1 troop

Steve Kearns is somewhere in East Anglia as far as I know. I played in the same local football team as him back in the late 80's, last I heard he was in Norwich and Jim Duffy is back up in Scotland (his email is on here)

I was in 8 sqn,I remember Joe Cunningham, he was a character, strange thing is I remember the two tattoos he had on his back, 'beasty Joe' and 'beauty Dee'. How bizarre is that, remembering after all these years.

Tiger Wodington ACC Brian Winchester and any one else who knew me

hi all im sober and still alive

Anyone in one troop at that time,i was troop signals nco,Stef, hopefully someone is out there

Percival's Bridge built by 2 troop 34sqn is still in use, didn't we do well? Information came from KENYA Ascent company,at my request
One of the lads spr Green I think carved a sign ( ELEPHANTS REQUESTED TO CROSS IN SINGLE FILE ) it was a work of art (I hope I got his name right)

I was in 2 troop when we built the bridge on Mt Kenya, I remember your name but I can’t place your face,I have photos here of the bridge and some taken in the top and bottom huts, when we climbed up Point Lenana in groups of about eight. It did my ears in for a while when we were blasting the granite for the bank seatings for the bridge,

The first work I did out there after acclimatising to the altitude was the funeral of Lt Percival, He dived off the board in Mombasa swimming pool and hit his head on the bottom, We had to learn the drill of the 303 in one day for the parade,We had been trained with the SLR,which was crap in the desert of Kuwait,

Any one from 34 fld sqn 1972 to 77

I was in 34 Squadron from February 1975 until November 1975 until I left the army. I am looking for either Trevor Franks or Jeff Baldock. I would like to get in contact with these two people or anyone else that may remember me.
