HQ 11 Engr Group

HQ 11 Engr Group was stationed on the outskirts of Osnabruck Germany. It comprised of HQ, 25 and 35 regiments and 7 Field Ambulance. The group frequently conducted various military exercises the most notable being operation "Spearpoint".
Exercise Spearpoint was the war fighting phase of a larger BAOR/UK exercise designed to test the war fighting capability of 1 (BR) Corps. The exercise involved UK based Regular and Territorial Army personnel with a BAOR role, as well as other NATO forces.
HQ 11 Engr Group Provided "Damage Control" for the exercise that caused a great deal of damage to civilian property.

I was delighted to serve with 11 Eng. Gp. at the end of the 50's. I was there for about 18 months and even learnt to swim in the pool, and how to play snooker in the atic at the top of the NAFFI. Had a workshop in the basement of HQ.
